Marteka: “So I ate a lot of broccoli.”
Me: “Yup, broccoli has a lot of antioxidants. Maybe that’s why you don’t have cancer right now.”
Marteka: “…do you really come up with this by yourself? So random.”
Me: “You know that movie with the vampires?” (Freudian slip, I meant to say werewolves.)
"…and I know you’ve seen Casablanca because you’re American."
“What the fuck. Well I know you’ve seen every Jackie Chan movie because you’re Chinese.”
On the way to Whole Foods-
Marteka: “We’re going to Whole Foods right?”
Me: “Yup, never been there.”
Marteka: “Yeah it’s great, they serve you champagne with strawberries.”
Marteka: “Holy shit.” Then she laughed for 5 minutes.
And when we got there, they DID have free strawberries!
Then we drove past “some person”in Pfafftown, and almost killed a bird, saw some horses and cows, and took photos of the beautiful countryside. We chilled at Starbucks and talked about weddings, made fun of hipsters, and other people.
My econ class is full of frat boys, as expected from Wake Forest in general. There is one girl who went to my high school with me, but I never talked to her, I don’t think anybody did… And another sorority girl from UNC in my class. I think it will be a special five weeks, and my professor is very eccentric and bubbly; we won’t have class next Thursday because his wife is making him go on an ice cream date with one of their four daughters. I wasn’t sure if he was joking or not.
He gave us a choice of whether we want more than 3 tests this session, like extra quizzes, and of course nobody wants them. But apparently we will regret that decision because his tests are “appropriately hard”, also he will give you extra points on your final grade if you show improvement on the test scores. “A person who made ‘C-B-A’ on the three tests will have a higher grade than the person who made ‘A-B-C’,” he says. Then he made fun of UNC and asked if we were the editors of the DTH in a mockingly condescending tone.
I don’t fit in at all. I feel like an outsider, it’s like high school all over again. Because Wake Forest = my high school. Same people, same atmosphere. It makes me miss UNC a lot more than I already do.
My little rant about the utter stupidity of this blog that tries to explain why Asians like certain things and trying to be humorous and clever when they’re really just generalizing the shit out of Asians.
I FINALLY got my pink guitar re-strung and tuned!! Now I can actually start to learn.
Marteka and I might go to Chapel Hill to visit for a weekend. We miss Kim and Kurama and bubble tea. Marteka got highly upset today when I mentioned honey dew.
I still refuse to get on Facebook.
I just remembered that this girl has been contacting me on it to buy my genetics book, but I’ll email her later. Apparently nothing much has been going on, I don’t miss it.
“Last night, I had a huge bout of social anxiety while hanging out with some friends. By the end of the night, all I wanted was a big hug. Since it was 3 am and I had no legitimate explanation for why I was feeling the way I was feeling, I settled for hugging a pillow to sleep. FML”—PrincetonFML.com D:
